Ford Bronco Upfitter Switches: The Aussie-Designed Upgrade Your Bronco’s Been Missing…

British Columbia - Legends Of Wes

AUX 4… was that the light bar?

Picture this. You’re out exploring around Lone Pine, California, the s
un starting to drop behind the ridge lines, and you reach up to turn on your LED light bar. Flick. Nothing. Flick again. Hang on, which switch did I wire it to? You pause and think, If only these Upfitter Switches in my Ford Bronco had icons, I wouldn’t be in this position. Flick. Ahh, finally. Let there be light. They’re strange times, and we never expected to find ourselves here: an Australian company coming to the aid of an all American hero. Yes, I’m talking about the Ford Bronco. A legacy, a story, and above all a workhorse designed to roam and conquer the great beyond. I’ll try not to get ahead of myself, but it seems Ford missed one small detail with the Ford Bronco Upfitter Switches. And, well, we have a solution. So strap yourself in, we are about to go for a wild ride.

Lost in translation

So let’s start from the beginning. Here in Australia, terms like “upfitter switch” or “toggle switch” don’t get thrown around much. Yes, we love our slang (“bugger” or “chuck ‘em in me ute”), but we still have our own way of naming things, especially when it comes to cars. I mean, we did design and build the ute. Before I go o on a tangent, a confession. We’ve always been secretly jealous of our cousins in the USA. Sure, they take over landing to crazy new levels, but what really gets us is how spoilt for choice they are with the Ford line-up. Our Next Gen Rangers are smaller and sit lower, and frankly they can’t be modified “legally” to the extent we see at SEMA videos on YouTube. That said, the Ford Ranger has been Australia’s number one selling vehicle for some time now, and it’s earnt its place. Aussies have been modifying these rigs till the cows come home, with brands offering aftermarket accessories from A right through to Z.

Two years down a rabbit hole…

Our Overhead Auxiliary Switch Caps (or Upfitter Auxiliary Switches, as they’re known in the US) started as an idea more than two long years ago. An overhead console full of prewired switches is a fantastic idea, but we love giving our 4x4s a bit more personality to suit our camping, over landing, family and work duties. AUX 1 to AUX 6 simply didn’t meet our standards. Plus, we love icons. So, we designed our own custom icons and switch caps, first for our own Fords (a Ford Ranger Super Duty and a Ford Ranger Raptor), then figured we’d make them so everyone could enjoy them. You’re welcome. The design phase was an interesting journey. We wanted the icons to glow bright enough at night, yet still fit the tiny surface area of an upfitter switch. Our first iteration was far from perfect, and it led us down a deep, dark rabbit hole of molding, illumination powder and acceptable icon sizing. Yes, we’re asking a premium price for these switch caps, but honestly, they’re worth it. We sweated details we doubt anyone else would and even taught ourselves about custom pulp packaging so our little switch caps sit snug and safe in transit. It took long hours of trial, reprinting and refitting until we landed on what we now call our assorted range. The added detail on the finger touch pad was also something we always wanted to add a little more character and never loved the plain finish on the Ford factory option. Luckily enough, we have partnered with a manufacturer that was able to achieve this tiny detail and are obsessed with how the result has turned out. A full sweep of six overhead switch caps looks and feel better than OE, that’s 100% a bias opinion. What do you think?

“We knew our switch caps worked for the Australian market, so finding out they suited the Bronco was a huge bonus. We’ve always loved the Bronco and was a little jelly they never hit our Aussie shores..…”

So, what’s this got to do with the Ford Bronco?

You might not see the connection straight away. Over in the States, you were treated to the 2021+ Ford Bronco early on, and here in Australia we were secretly hoping it would come our way. It never did. To rub it in, there’s now the 2026 Ford Bronco, with trim levels running from the Base model right up to the Bronco Raptor, the elite, performance-driven over landing machine that shares plenty with our Ranger Raptor. In fact, the US Bronco sits on the Australian-designed T6 platform, the same one under the Ranger and Everest. So, we’ll keep waiting, fingers crossed behind our backs, for that one to reach our shores. What we are getting is the Ford Bronco Basecamp, due in the second half of 2027. Fair warning though: it’s a very different animal. It’s a Chinese-built range-extender “super hybrid”, not the ladder-frame Bronco our American cousins drive.

Which Ford Bronco trims have upfitter switches?

Not every Ford Bronco has upfitter switches, but plenty of trim levels do. Those owners were the ones flooding our Instagram, asking how they could get our switch caps to their doorstep. At the start, we shipped those orders to the States manually to keep our customers happy. Demand kept growing, so we’ve now officially launched dexon.com.au shipping to anywhere in the USA. To clear up any confusion, the Ford USA website states the upfitter switches are “Standard on Heritage Edition, Badlands®, Stroppe Edition, and Raptor®. Available on BigBend® with Black Diamond® Package. Auxiliary Switches with Pre-Run Accessory Wires located in Overhead Console with Front Map Lights”. Not sure if your Bronco will take them? Get in touch with the DEXON team and we’ll sort out fitment with you.

Know your switches, know your rig

So that’s the story. Two years, more prototypes than we’d like to admit and one very small surface area later, our Upfitter Auxiliary Switch Caps are finally on their way to Bronco owners across the USA. Here’s what you’re getting. There are 45 in-house icons, ranging from properly useful to downright cheeky. Each cap glows blue on standby and turns orange when it’s active, so you can tell what’s running with a glance at the roof. They’re OE molded to match the factory overhead console, finished with a soft textured grip you’ll notice every time you reach up, and made from high-grade PC. The best bit? They’re a clip-in replacement. No wiring, no drilling. Give yourself about 30 minutes (depending on skill level) on a weekend and you’re done. It’s not just a Bronco thing either. The same caps suit the Next Gen Ranger, Next Gen Ranger Raptor, Ranger Super Duty and assortment of F-Series trucks, and they ship to owners in Australia and the USA. Designed and tested here, built for Fords on both sides of the Pacific.

“We honestly didn’t expect the reaction we got from overseas. It’s been incredible. Knowing something we designed in Australia is making someone’s rig better halfway across the world is a pretty special feeling….”

Packaging Till The End…

Now, an honest word for our Aussie readers. We haven’t confirmed fitment for the incoming Bronco Basecamp, so please hold off ordering a set for it until we have. When we know, you’ll know. To our current knowledge the trim level that we have seen does not cater for overhead auxiliary switches however we have not confirmed which trim levels are to be launched in 2027. Hold tight, we will certainly leave this audience happy. For the USA Bronco crowd in the USA and even in Canada, there’s a nice full-circle moment in all this. Your Bronco’s bones were drawn up partly in Australia, and so were these toggle switch caps. Consider it the family getting back together. If you’re not sure if your Bronco has the factory upfitter switches? Look up at the overhead console near the map lights, or send the DEXON team a message, and we’ll check it for you. Your rig. Your icons. No more guessing which one runs the light bar. Giddy up.
