If you have ever glanced up at your overhead switch bank and wondered which button does what, you are not alone. The factory AUX1 through AUX6 labels were never going to win any awards for clarity, and DEXON decided it was time to do something about it.
The DEXON Overhead Auxiliary Switch Cap range gives Ford drivers complete overhead control with icon-based switch caps that make every accessory instantly identifiable briefly. Whether you are hitting the light bar on a bush track, switching on the camp lights, or turning your fridge on, there is no guessing required.
Every icon in the DEXON range was designed in-house, with 35 options spanning the functional, the practical, and the downright entertaining. The off-road community has a good sense of humour and these switches reflect that. When a switch is active, the backlight transitions to a vibrant orange, giving you a clear visual signal that your accessory is live and ready.
Best of all, the factory wiring is already in place. This installation requires no electrical work whatsoever. There is no rewiring, no drilling, and no auto electrician required. It is a straightforward cap replacement that most owners can complete in under 30 minutes with basic hand tools. The only tool you need beyond what is in the box is a trim removal pry tool.
Before You Start
What You Will Need
- Plastic trim removal tool (pry tool)
- Small flathead screwdriver (one included in every order)
- Clean bench or cloth to work over, helps catch small parts
Time Required
- Allow 15 to 30 minutes for a first-time installation.
What is Included in the Box
• 1x DEXON Overhead auxiliary switch cap (quantity as ordered)
We also include a small flathead screwdriver with every Overhead Auxiliary Switch Cap order.
Recycling the Packaging
All DEXON packaging is cardboard-based and fully biodegradable and recyclable. Please dispose of it through your local kerbside recycling or place it in your compost bin.
Workspace
Choose a clean, dry, well-lit area to work in. A flat surface covered with a cloth or mat is recommended to protect the trim panel and prevent small parts such as the detent pins from rolling away.
Tips and Tricks
- Use a wide plastic trim tool, a narrow trim tool may dent the moulded roof lining
- Work slowly when prying the overhead panel. Plastic trim clips are firm but not indestructible. Steady, even pressure is more effective than force.
- Keep track of the small spring-loaded detent pins inside each switch housing. They are easy to lose and spares are not supplied, nor be ordered as a spare part through DEXON®
- Lay the switch block on a cloth while swapping caps so pins and small parts can be found easily
- AUX5 and AUX6 are high-beam triggered only. Plan your icon selection around this before fitting caps.
- If you are unsure which icons suit your setup, browse the full 35-icon range at dexon.com.au.
- For Bronco owners: the upfitter switches on your model provide the same auxiliary switch bank functionality. This installation applies to those switches.

Step-by-Step Installation
Follow these steps in order. Take your time with the trim panel and switch block, the process is straightforward once you understand the clip and pin mechanism.
Step 1 : Remove the Overhead Panel
Locate the overhead AUX switch panel in the headliner above the front seats. Using your plastic trim removal tool, gently pry down along the front edge of the panel, working progressively toward the sides. Apply gentle rearward pressure to release the panel from the roof lining once the clips begin to give. Support the panel as it releases to avoid stress on the wiring harness. With the panel lowered, unplug the wiring connector from the switch block by pressing the release tab and pulling the plug clear.
There is no need to remove the overhead panel completely from the vehicle. You only need enough clearance to access the switch block and work comfortably.
Step 2 : Remove the Switch Block from the Fascia
The switch block is held into the fascia panel by four locking clips, two at the front and two at the rear. Using the included small flathead screwdriver, gently release each clip in turn. Work carefully and do not force the clips. Once all four are released, the switch block will slide free from the fascia.
Step 3 : Remove the Existing Switch Caps
With the switch block in hand, you can now remove each cap individually. Slide the small flathead screwdriver under the side tab of the first cap and gently bend it outward to release the locating pin. Repeat on the opposite side, then lift the cap clear of the housing.
Important: The spring-loaded detent pins sit inside the switch housing and may be loose once the cap is removed. Keep these safe. They are not included as spares.
Step 4 : Fit the DEXON Switch Caps
Place each DEXON switch cap onto the corresponding switch housing, aligning it over the locating pins. Press down firmly until the cap swivels freely on the pins, confirming it is correctly seated. Work through all caps in your order before moving on.
Before reassembly, take a moment to confirm your cap placement. Remember that AUX5 and AUX6 are high-beam triggered switches, so position your icon selection accordingly.
Step 5 : Reassemble
Clip the completed switch block back into the fascia panel by reversing Step 2. Press each clip in firmly until all four engage and the block sits flush. Reconnect the wiring harness plug to the switch block until it clicks. Offer the fascia trim panel back to the headliner opening and press evenly and firmly along the panel until all clips engage and the panel sits flush with the headliner. Run your hand along the edges to confirm a consistent fit. And there you go, that is the complete installation.
Look up and you will see 6 icons worth of personality staring back at you, each one designed in-house by the DEXON team to bring some genuine visual logic to your overhead switch bank. Every time a switch goes live, the backlight shifts to a vivid orange, giving you instant confirmation that your accessory is active. No guessing, no generic labels, just clear visual control of your build.
The factory wiring did all the heavy lifting long before this cap arrived on your doorstep. All you needed was 30 minutes and a pry tool, and now your Ford overhead switch panel looks the way it should. If you run into any issues during installation, the DEXON support team is available through dexon.com.au. An installation video will also be available on the product page shortly for a full visual walkthrough.
