Prep Is Everything

Before you even think about peeling the backing, prep is everything. A sticker will only ever stick as well as the surface you put it on. Dirt, dust, grease, or even a bit of leftover wax can be the difference between a sticker that lasts years and one that starts peeling after the first wash. Taking a few extra minutes to clean and set up the surface properly will make the application smoother, help the vinyl bond stronger, and give you that crisp, bubble-free finish.

The secret to a long-lasting sticker is in the prep:

1. Clean the surface — use warm soapy water or an alcohol-based cleaner. Wipe off any dust, grease, or wax.
2. Dry completely — moisture is the enemy of adhesion.
3. Measure it out — use masking tape to line up the position so you’re not sticking blind.

Application

When it’s time to apply your DEXON™ Vinyl Sticker, start by removing it from the cardboard sleeve. Use the small tab at the opening to slide the sticker out carefully — no need to wrestle with it. Inside, you’ll find the vinyl sandwiched neatly between two protective papers. This keeps the sticker clean, flat, and ready for a smooth application. Take your time here; handling it gently will make the next part a whole lot easier.

Step-by-Step Application

1.  Choose your spot: Make sure the surface is smooth, clean, and dry. Avoid seams, textured plastics, or spots where different materials meet (like plastic trim against metal panels).
2. Clean the surface: Wipe the area with warm soapy water or an alcohol-based cleaner to remove dust, grease, or wax. Dry completely, moisture will kill the adhesive.
3. Line it up: Before peeling, use masking tape or a quick eye-measure to mark where the sticker will go. This saves you from crooked finishes.
4. Peel back the first layer: Carefully peel away the backing paper to expose the adhesive side of the vinyl. Try not to touch the sticky side with your fingers too much.
5. Lay it down slowly: Starting from one edge, press the sticker onto the surface, working your way across to the other side. Think of it like closing a book, this helps push air out as you go.
6. Smooth it out: Use a squeegee, credit card, or even your thumb to press firmly across the sticker. Start from the centre and work outwards to remove any bubbles.
7. Check the edges: Run your finger or card along every edge to make sure the sticker is fully sealed down.
8. Let it set: Give the sticker 24 hours before washing or hitting it with high-pressure water. After that, it’s locked in and ready to cop whatever the road throws at it.

Maintenance and Aftercare

Once your DEXON™ Vinyl Sticker is in place, give it a little time to bond properly. Avoid washing the area, scrubbing, or hitting it with a pressure washer for at least 24 hours. After that, it’s built to handle the elements — sun, rain, mud, and road grime. When you do wash over it, stick to mild soapy water and a soft sponge rather than harsh chemicals or abrasive brushes.
