Tucked at the southern tip of Victoria, Wilsons Promontory is where granite peaks meet white-sand beaches, and the bush rolls gently into clear, tidal waters. At its heart is Tidal River Campground, a peaceful base where you can pitch a tent by the river, swim before breakfast, and walk straight onto one of the many hiking trails.

The campground is well equipped, with hot showers, clean facilities, and a small general store for the essentials. It’s a paid site, and bookings are essential during summer, spots fill fast in peak season. A short drive inland takes you to The Big Drif, an otherworldly stretch of towering sand dunes that rise above the tree line and glow gold at sunset. Bring a camera and take your time, it’s a moment worth chasing.

Here, the stars shine brighter, the ocean breathes deeper, and life feels exactly as it should, wild and wonderfully still.
