Overview

You can also watch the full installation on the DEXON® product page if you prefer a visual walkthrough.

For the early morning adventurer, tradie, surfer, or the late-night camper, we have developed an OE replacement for the factory fitted lighting in your Next-Gen Ford Rangers and Amarok (NF) utes with factory tub bodies.

This falls in place with a factory-style look, factory connectors so it plugs into the vehicle's wiring (no modifications here), but with increased light output helping you light up your tub sufficiently and then some. We have also implemented a sharp cut-off line, meaning if you stand opposed to the light, you have no need to be blinded by stray light; these only light the area required.

Available in two options of beam colour, white (5000 kelvin), which will suit anyone looking to keep the feel and increase the performance. Separately, for those more driven by adventure, we also offer our Tub Light Assembly in a warm (1500 Kelvin) amber that aids in reducing glare and helps with bugs during camping. It’s also just a subjectively nicer feel in our opinion.

What You Will Need

  • T30 Torx Key
  • Flathead screwdriver (only required if you really struggle with removing the factory light)

Time Required

  • Allow 15 to 30 minutes for a first-time installation.

What is Included in the Box

  • 2x DEXON® LED Tub Light Assembly (user selected white or amber)
  • 4x Thick spacers (used for lined tubs)
  • 4x Thin spacers (used for painted tubs)

Recycling the Packaging

All DEXON® packaging is cardboard-based and fully biodegradable and recyclable. Please dispose of it through your local kerbside recycling or place it in your compost bin.

Workspace

This is a job that can be executed straight out of the back of the ute. If you have a scrap piece of cardboard or foam mat lying around, throw it in the back of the ute if you wish; this is purely to protect your knees during install. Those tub floors aren’t exactly intended for comfort.

Compatibility

The DEXON® Tub Light Assembly is compatible with the following Ford and Volkswagen models with factory fitted tub bodies:

  • Ford Next-Gen Ranger Raptor – Factory Tub Body
  • Ford Next-Gen Ranger Super Duty – Factory Tub Body
  • Ford Next-Gen Ranger* (select variants) – Factory Tub Body
  • Volkswagen Next-Gen Amarok (NF) – Factory Tub Body

Step-by-Step Installation

Follow these steps in order. Take your time when removing the factory tub light, as the lower clips can be fragile and easily damaged. Even after doing one side, removing the other factory light still doesn’t make it any easier.

Step 1: Removing the factory tub light

Jumping up into the tub, you will see both a left and right factory tub light. These are secured with 2x Torx-head bolts, which you will need the T30 Torx key to release. Rotate each bolt counterclockwise until both bolts are completely removed.

The factory light does sit quite snug within the housing of the tub, and you’ll need to use a bit of caressing to get it to pop out. There are 2 plastic spring clips located at the bottom of the light that were mostly designed for a one-way trip with no return, so ideally start by raising the light as far up as it will sit within the opening, tilt the light out from the bottom away from the tub, and giggle your way to success. If you can get enough of an opening, some might find it easiest to use a flathead screwdriver to reach in and persuade the clips up and out.

In our experience, although it feels wrong, a bit of force is the easiest method to removing the factory light. We do display this in the above installation video.

Step 2: Disconnecting the light

A lot of install guides will advise you to disconnect power when meddling with anything electrical; however, this is not a requirement for this particular install. We do advise you to keep the upgraded LED Tub light in reach, as once you unplug the factory unit, you can drop the factory plug in the wall of the tub, and as it turns out, not a fun task to retrieve depending on how far it falls.

Simply release the locking clip; this is the red clip located on the top of the plug and just needs to be slid backwards (away from the plug) to release. Once done, you will be able to remove the tub light from the factory plug.

As mentioned, it’s ideal to now plug this straight into your DEXON® Tub Light Assembly so that you remove the chance of that cable slipping into the Abis. The light can just gently be left to rest dangling as we move onto the next step. Make sure to lock in the red clip to secure the plug correctly.

Step 3:  Selecting the correct spacers

Included are a total of 8 rubber spacers, 4 thick spacers and 4 thin spacers. Which ones you require depends on the tub liner styling to your vehicle. For painted tub liners, you will need the thin spacers as this will help the light sit flush against the body. For plastic tub liners, you will need the thicker spacers as this will help position the light correctly away from the tub body itself and sit cleanly with the plastic tub liner.

These spacers simply slide in from the side of the light; they are identical, so there is no dedicated left or right.

Step 4: Offer the light back to the tub

Start by grabbing your factory torx bolts and mounting the DEXON® Tub Light Assembly into position. Starting with one side of the light, begin to thread the bolt back down, securing the new light into place. For now, this only needs to be finger-tight as you will need to repeat this for the other bolt and you may need some allowance to align the light into the desired position.

Once both bolts are in and you have centred the light to the desired position, you can now tighten down the 2 retaining bolts. These don’t need to be overly tight, just enough, you know?

Check that you have completed this correctly by simply hitting the unlock button on the remote, as this will illuminate the tub lights and you can ensure everything is operating as expected.

Step 5: Rinse and repeat

Now that you have completed one side of your tub, time to do it again, repeating this on the alternate side of the tub. Follow the process again and remember just to be as gentle as your patience will allow whilst removing the factory unit from the tub.

That’s it, get out there and enjoy it.
